Like many other games, I still can’t believe N.C. State’s loss to Maryland: ACC men’s hoops report

I was listening to the N.C. State-Maryland game on the radio last night(600AM/101.5FM), as I was making my way back in from the Northern Guilford road trip and I don’t think I have ever heard the Wolfpack announcer Gary Hahn sound more excited….

As I was I listening to the first half, it sounded like the Pack had this one in the bag at home, in front of huge crowd(At least it sounded that way on the radio and remember I never got to hear the second half or the final score because I was typing up the HS games.)……

It was a sure thing for N.C State to get that win over the Maryland Terrapins, right?

WRONG!

I pull up the News and Record on-line this morning and I see where the Wolfpack lost another one….I can’t believe this! They had it racked in the first half and were well on their way to an ACC win. Not to be……

I thought that maybe even N.C State could pull off a key win once and while, but not gonna happen…..This is almost enough to make you say, “How ’bout them Heels”, or wonder how can Duke be down for the count, as they were last night and keep on coming back with the wins????? Go WFU, at least you are in the hunt, near the top in the league. This tranfer of affection toward the other teams is growing old.

You can only talk about the Heels, Devils, and Deacs for so long with a falsified passion. Eventually you have to come home to roost and the Rooster has become a Roaster in Raleigh.

Whatch you gonna do? I said whatch you gonna do????? Switch to 102/102 JAHMZ, I guess………

I still can’t believe N.C State lost, but here is the update on all of last night’s games from www.theacc.com…..

Maryland Defeats NC State 67-58

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Greivis Vasquez scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half to help Maryland rally from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat North Carolina State 67-58 on Wednesday night.

Freshman Jordan Williams matched his season-high of 19 points to go with 11 rebounds for the Terrapins (18-7, 8-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who pushed ahead for good midway through the second half for their seventh straight win in the series. Maryland shot 56 percent after halftime to move into a second-place tie with Virginia Tech in the ACC standings, just behind league-leading Duke.

Dennis Horner had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wolfpack (14-13, 2-10), who have lost five straight games to fall into the ACC basement. N.C. State led 37-27 at halftime, but went nearly 9 minutes without a field goal after the break as Maryland

Duke Pushes Past Miami 81-74

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Mike Krzyzewski claimed his halftime pep talk had nothing to do with Duke’s dramatic turnaround Wednesday night.

At the time, there was little to praise. The No. 6-ranked Blue Devils dug a 12-point halftime hole, then used smothering defense to rally and beat the Miami Hurricanes 81-74.

Jon Scheyer missed his first nine shots and Nolan Smith missed his first six for the Blue Devils, who shot 31 percent in the opening half to fall behind 37-25. But 22 turnovers doomed the Hurricanes, who attempted only 45 shots to 60 for the Blue Devils.

Better shooting helped, too. Scheyer, Smith and Kyle Singler combined for 49 points in the second half after totaling nine in the first half. Despite starting poorly, Smith finished with 21 points, and Scheyer scored 15 while shooting 3 for 15. Singler scored 22, had 11 rebounds and played all 40 minutes.

Dwayne Collins had 21 points and nine rebounds for Miami, and Durand Scott scored 19 points.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Chris Singleton scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Florida State to a 69-50 victory over Virginia on Wednesday night.

Luke Louks had 11 points and Xavier Gibson added 10 for the Seminoles (19-7, 7-5 Atlantic Coast Conference), who held Virginia to its second-lowest scoring output of the season.

Solomon Alabi, who came in averaging 12.5 points per game, scored eight points for Florida State. The Seminoles’ leading scorer this season left the game at the 18:46 mark with an arm injury, but returned to score six first-half points.

The Seminoles shot 50 percent from the floor compared to Virginia (14-10, 5-6), which shot 38 percent.

Florida State led by nine points at halftime, but went on an 11-2 run to start the second half.

  1. It’s a sad day in the ACC when UNC’s only quality wins come over the Pack! Sidney may be getting some walking papers…UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

  2. I hate to kick a team or their fans when they are down but … “quality wins”?! UNC had some quality wins early but those days are over for the season. The Heels appear to be mailing it in which is what pisses me off the most. Way more than a bad season is a “we dont give a (*&^” season. Herb shouldnt be gone. Maybe Si Lowe is done but the Pack will be back just as will be The Heels. Someday.

Duke looks to be stacked the next couple of years.
