Piedmont Triad Conference Tournament – Boys

Southwest Guilford 11 19 14 9 – 53
Ragsdale 13 9 14 22 – 58

Ragsdale, somehow, found a way to win the Semi-Final round. Entering the fourth quarter trailing by 8 at 44 – 36 Ragsdale staged a comeback, primarily from the foul line. Southwest, who up until that point had slashed to the basket, rebounded and got balanced scoring on the inside, went away from their game plan and allowed Ragsdale back in the game. Ragsdale tied the game up at 49 on a Tyquan Roberts foul shot with 3:45 remaining. They took the lead when Roberts hit two more from the line 13 seconds later. Southwest went back ahead on back to back baskets by Greg Bridges, the second one coming on a steal to give the Cowboys a 53 – 51 lead with two minutes left. That would be the last Southwest point. Ragsdale went 7 for 8 from the charity stripe over the last 1:38 as Southwest couldn’t find the basket and were forced and when they tried to press they committed foul after foul.

Southwest only got 9 points in the fourth quarter all of them coming from Greg Bridges who had 23 for the night to lead all scorers. Terrell Leach had 10 points for the Cowboys, 8 of them coming in the second quarter.

Ragsdale put 22 on the board in the fourth hitting 14 of 16 foul shots. Southwest pressed the entire fourth quarter and although they got a couple of steals they repeatedly committed fouls as Ragsdale broke the press. It was as if Southwest was the team behind and trying to comeback. They got away from the offense that had given them the lead and just couldn’t find the basket.

Ragsdale had four players in double figures. Kalik Parker and Devante Fletcher each had 13, while Benaiah Wise had 11 and Tyquan Roberts had 10. Fletcher was outstanding under the boards at both ends, blocking shots and rebounding for putbacks. This was the third meeting of the year between the two teams with Ragsdale winning all three. The margin of victory was identical in the three games…5 points.

The Ragsdale win sets up the fourth meeting of the year between Northwest Guilford and Ragsdale Friday night at High Point Central. Game time is approx. 8:30 PM.

Ragsdale has won the previous three meetings.
