GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Alex Starbuck (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) had three hits and scored four times in the Quakers’ 11-6 home win over visiting Greensboro College Thursday. Teammate Drew Ward (Wilkesboro,N.C./West Wilkes) added two hits and three runs batted in (RBI) in the Quakers’ home opener.

Starbuck had a first-inning RBI double and scored on a Ward single as Guilford (3-1) struck for three runs in the first off of Greensboro starter Jacob Cadle (0-1) (Denton, N.C./Westchester Country Day). Kyle Wooden’s(Monroe, N.C./Sun Valley) run-scoring triple in the third made it a 4-0 game before the Pride (2-2) got on the board in the fifth inning when Matt Irwin(Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) scored on a wild pitch after leading off with a triple.

The Quakers answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, including two from a Ward single.

The Pride tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh innings off of Guilford starter Will Simpson (1-0) (Cary, N.C./Green Hope (RockinghamC.C.), which made it a 7-3 contest. The Quakers took advantage of five walks and two wild pitches in a four-run seventh inning that put the game out of reach.

Greensboro’s reserves rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth off of Guilford closer Michael Blocher (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville (WilkesC.C.)). Logan Beasley’s (Liberty, N.C./Eastern Randolph) two-run single highlighted the Greensboro ninth.
