Lewis Owenby’s putback pushes Greensboro College men over Shenandoah, 56-54

Greensboro, NC — Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen) put back a missed free throw with no time remaining as Greensboro College defeated Shenandoah, 56-54, at Hanes Gym on Saturday night. Owenby had a team-high 12 points for GC, which closed the regular season 11-14, 4-8 USA South.

With the game tied at 54, Andre Porter (Hope Mills, NC/Southview) was fouled with Owenby was fouled with 1.4 seconds left. He missed both attempts. On the second, he took a perfect angle to the side, rebounded the miss and put it back in one motion. Ownenby was 5-8 from the field and had 6 blocked shots.

RJ Smith (Charleston, SC/Porter Gaud School), a senior night honoree, added 11 points for the home team. The other senior, Walter Brady (St. Petersburg, Fla./Gibbs), had 9 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.

Kenny Robertson scored a game-high 15 points for SU (10-15, 7-5 USAS).

The Pride earned the six seed in the USA South tournament. GC will face third seed CNU at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
