CWR sweeps Guilford during Sunday on the diamond, but well-known Will Cornelius(NWG) connects for Quakers and Wooden whacks two more

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Case Western Reserve received two strong pitching
performances from young southpaws to sweep Guilford College in a
nonconference baseball doubleheader Sunday at McBane Field. The Spartans won
the opener, 9-5, and took game two, 11-7.

Rookie Jarrett Gish (1-0) fanned four and yielded one earned run over five
innings in the Spartans (2-2) opening-game win. Case Western took advantage
of Guilford starter Sammy Stuart’s (0-2) four walks and one hit batsman to
open a 6-1 lead after three innings. Mike Pecoraro was three-for-three with
two doubles and three RBIs. Sam Alexander also had three hits and three RBIs
for the Spartans.

Guilford’s Kyle Wooden belted his third home run in as many games, a
three-run shot in the sixth inning.

Wooden belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning of the
nightcap off of sophomore lefty A.J. Boshinski, but the Spartans scored in
all seven innings for an 11-7 victory in the nightcap. Rookie southpaw A.J.
Hora replaced Boshinski in the fifth inning and worked out of a couple
late-inning jams for his first college save. Alexander had three more hits
and three more RBIs and Pecoraro added two hits.

Will Cornelius (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) hit a three-run homer
in the fifth inning to make it an 8-6 contest. Cornelius, Drew Ward and
Derek Hardison all had two hits for the Quakers (5-3).
