The GTCC baseball team finally got to start its season this weekend and started off in grand fashion by winning four straight over Rockingham Community College.
Game 1 on Saturday saw the Titans edge the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Titans
scored all 3 of their runs in the 2nd inning with an RBI single by Israel Hernandez
and a 2-run homer off the bat of Mike Russo. That would be all the runs the Titans
would need as GTCC pitchers Zach Horne and Timmy Dezearn limited RCC to only 2 hits.
Game 2 was another dominating Titan pitching performance as GTCC’s Dalton Shuford
struck out 9 Eagles in 4 innings en route to the 9-3 win. Matt Dillon and Kevin
Sanders paced the Titan hitting attack with 3 hits apiece, and Alan Filauro clubbed
a 3-run homer in the top of the 7th to put the game out of reach for RCC.
The Titans put on a hitting display in Game 3 on Sunday in a 14-5 GTCC win. Hector
Bautista, Kenny Graham, and Kevin Sanders all connected for 3-run homers in the
game. Alex Britt picked up the win in relief for the Titans.
In Game 4 on Sunday, the Titans cruised to a 6-1 victory behind the strong pitching
of Matt Dillon. Kenny Graham smashed a solo home run, and Paco Martin drove in 2
runs for GTCC.
The Titans return to action this Tuesday when they play Guilford College. Pitt
Community College then comes to town to face the Titans this weekend in a big Region
X showdown. Pitt Community College is currently ranked #10 in the national polls.
Saturday and Sunday’s doubleheaders will start at 1:00 and will be played at Finch
Field in Thomasville, NC.
