Cat Fight on Friday night as Ragsdale Tigers take down Butler Bulldogs and now head to the Panther Nation to face Dudley in Sectional Finals

Article courtesy of Mike Ellis from the Jamestown News and their papers are in the racks in around Jamestown as we speak and Mike tells us of a HUGE Ragsdale Tiger win tonight in Jamestown, where the Tigers are now prepping to come meet Dudley in the Sectional Finals this Friday night……

Butler 13 12 3 25 – 53
Ragsdale 14 11 13 25 – 63

Butler, winner of the Southwestern Conference Tournament, visited Ragsdale for
second round action. The two teams were tied at 25 at halftime before Ragsdale came
out of the locker and scored the first 9 points of the second half and held the
Bulldogs to one three point basket. The Tigers went on to score thirteen in the
third quarter, 6 coming from Tyquan Roberts, to build a 10 point lead after three.

Butler used a full court press most of the game and it began to pay dividends in the
fourth as they got the lead down to 5 with just under 3 minutes to go. They used
the speed of their outstanding point guard, Anthony Stitt to get the ball upcourt
quickly and after Craig Raye hit a three pointer they had the score down to 53 – 50
with one minute left. With time running out and unable to steal the ball, Butler
had to foul and Ragsdale took advantage hitting 10 of 10 free throws in the last
minute with Benaiah Wise going 6 for 6 to push the lead back up to 10 and record the
63 – 53 win. The Tigers were 17 of 17 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Coach Shoemaker had his team play a 2 – 3 zone the entire game to counter the
athletic and big Butler team. The Bulldogs’ 6′ 7″ center, Aerris Smith, who scored
22 points in their first round win over West Forsyth was held to 5 points and only
one field goal. Stitt led Butler in scoring with 19 points, 13 of them coming in
the fourth quarter, and Marcus Burton had 13.

Ragsdale played outstanding defense, handled the Butler pressure well and got
balanced scoring and rebounding. Tyquan Roberts led the way with 16 points,
followed by Benaiah Wise and Kalik Parker with 13 each. Parker, Roberts, Devante
Fletcher and D’onovan Smith along with freshman Sharwyn McGee did a great job of
battling on the boards. The ball handling against the Butler pressure was excellent
as Wise, Jaxon Randolph and Parker brought the ball up against the press. It was an
outstanding win for the Tigers as they advance for an expected Friday night matchup
against the Panthers of Dudley.

  1. Is Anthony Stitt the brother of Demontez Stitt the pg from Clemson, because Demontez played at Butler as well.

  2. It may be Dudley and Ragsdale but in this sport Dudley has too much talent. Tigers played their butts off just to get there. The good news is the athletes from these two schools get along well for the most part. There is some level of mutual respect.

  3. JoJo, I was thinking the same thing. I think you are right on the money with your specualtion about the Stitts….

  4. I understand that Anthony Stitt is a “distant cousin” of Demontez. Anthony is a junior and is being recruited by several D1 schools including Clemson.
