Toomey goes off for 51 points as Bishop beats Cherryville in Double OT, 101-98

Toomey 10 rebs 6 assists

Bishop went to Cherryville facing overwhelming odds and escaped with the double OT win. Bishop made 5 threes in the first half and nice play by Atticus Lum held the Villains close to the high powered offense of Cherryville for a 37-38 halftime score. Toomey went down with a back injury early in the 2nd quarter but freshman Kevin Weckworth handled Cherryvilles pressure until Toomey recovered.

In the third Cherryville got up 10 points but the Villains battled back over the next 8 minutes behind Toomeys 15 second half points. Bishop was down 8 going intp
the 4th but rallied for a 5 point lead w 2 minutes to go in regulation. A three by Cherryvilles Terry Whisnant and a layup by Howell tied the score and Toomey missed a runner and Rathburns tip in bounced out to force OT.

Back and forth in OT the teams traded baskets and the Villains got a defensive stop to force double ot. Toomey controlled the 2nd OT and got to the foul line and Bishop held a 2 point lead with 4 seconds left and Cherryville had the ball under their own basket. Strong defense forced the timeout which Cherryville did not have, and Toomey sealed the victory from the free throw line for the Villains.
