Greensboro College drops conference opener in baseball at WMS

Greensboro, NC — Greensboro College lost its conference opener to visiting Averett, 8-1, on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. GC’s Jeff Guerrie (Lewisville, NC/West Forsyth) went 2-3 to lead Pride hitters.

AU starter Brian Knowles pitched 8 innings of scoreless ball. GC’s Michael Manfro (Fauquier, VA/Notre Dame Academy) pitched 7 frames and took the loss. Ethan Ellington (Eden, NC/Rockingham County High School) and David Schilling (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsburg High School) tossed a scoreless inning for The Pride.

Cougar catcher Michael Moore went 2-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Averett put 3 runs on the board in both the 5th and 7th innings.

The Pride was felled by 4 fielding errors.

The final game of the series is tomorrow at 1 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
