Ragsdale came from behind to record the 3 – 2 win. Billy Stone started for the Tigers and went four innings. He gave up two runs in the fourth (one earned) on back to back doubles with the second run coming home on a two out error.
Ragsdale came back in their half of the fourth. Desean Anderson got a one out single and Ben Fultz followed with a 375′ blast to center into the teeth of a strong wind. Stone followed with a single, went to third on a Walt Sparks single and scored on a Zach Hodges pop up to short centerfield that the wind took and it dropped in between first and second for a game winning rbi single.
Stone picked up the win, working four innings, giving up one earned run, striking out 5 and giving up 5 hits. Hodges, Sparks and Anderson each worked an inning of
relief to protect the one run lead with Anderson picking up the save.
I hear there may have been a “iffy” call at the plate that maybe decided the outcome. Anybody know about this?
A kid slid in at home and never reached the plate. Ground ball it the infield was bobbled and runner tried to score from 2nd. Throw from the infield was low and bounced and was blocked. catcher picked up the ball and tagged runner with ball in hand after initially tagging with glove only. Catcher blocked the plate and runner did not get within a foot of the plate. Pretty easy call. Happened earlier in the game. Error was kid probably should never have tried to score from 2nd on a infield ground ball. Good throw had him by a mile. Catcher had plenty of time. Then there was a close play with a Ragsdale runner at the plate. Same thing, ump said he never reached the plate. S Lee catcher did a good job blocking the plate. Ball hit to outfield and S Lee made two great throws to make it a play. Could have been either play. Nobody disputed either play.
The closest play in the game was on a double play that cost Ragsdale a run. Poor throw to 1st looked like it pulled the S Lee 1st baseman off the bag. That play did draw some discussion.
