Matt Irwin has big day at the plate, but Pride drop two games to Piedmont

Greensboro, NC — Greensboro College baseball lost a doubleheader to Piedmont on Saturday. The Lions won the first game, 10-4, and the nightcap, 8-7. The Pride’s Matt Irwin (Asburn, VA/Stone Bridge) had another strong day at the plate as he had two hits in both games.

GC is 4-12 and PC improved to 7-10.

In game one, Irwin went 2-4 with an RBI. #Trey Daniel3 gave up 10 runs, but just three were earned. Reliever Avery Lawrence (Stafford, VA/Stafford) threw a scoreless 7th inning. GC was felled by six errors in game in the game. PC outhit The Pride 7-6. Shelton Spencer got the win for Piedmont.

Trailing 7-6, Piedmont scored two runs in the eighth en route to the win. The Pride out-hit the Lions 11-8. In addition to Irin, Michael Parker (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance) and Josh Montague (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) collected two hits for The Pride. Brandon Matthews (Chesapeake, VA/Norfolk Collegiate) suffered his first college defeat on the mound.

Zac Stein hit a grand slam home run for PC in the fourth inning. Ed Cook got the win in relief for the visitors.

The Lions and Pride play a single on Sunday at 1 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
