Split for Guilford College baseball vs. Tigers on Sunday

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Guilford College split an Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) baseball doubleheader at Hampden-Sydney College Sunday
afternoon.

The split puts the Quakers’ overall record at 10-6 (3-2 ODAC). The Tigers
move to 7-6 (2-4 ODAC).

Guilford’s Kyle Wooden delivered a two-out, two-run double in the top of the
seventh to break a 2-2 tie in the opener. Wooden had two doubles among his
three hits in the game. Alex Starbuck and D.J. Phillips added two hits
apiece. Adam Hart (5-1) pitched into the seventh inning before allowing a
solo homer to Zach Harrelson with one out that made it a one-run game.
Michael Blocher retired the final two batters for his team-leading third
save of the season.

In game two, Harrelson went 3-4 with a double and three RBI in the 8-1
Tigers’ win. Hampden-Sydney scored four unearned runs in the game. Matt
Brown was 2-3 with a three-run homer in the Tigers’ third inning. Ryan
Daniel improved to 3-2 with six innings of six-hit ball. Dan Nicoll
collected his first college save with three innings of no-hit, no-runs
relief.

Drew Ward had two of Guilford’s six hits.

The Quakers return to action Monday (3/15) against visiting Franklin &
Marshall College in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
