Guilford is making their fourth NCAA
playoff appearance in as many years and have
a 12-3 record in NCAA games. Guilford has
qualified for the tournament semifinals for
the second straight season by virtue of home
wins Mar. 5-6 over Christopher Newport
(83-59) and John Carroll (85-82) and last
weekend’s triumphs over Wooster (75-68)
and Eastern Mennonite (90-80).
A year ago, Guilford reached its first Division
III semifinal game with wins over
Transylvania (71-67 OT), Averett (91-81),
John Carroll (78-73) and Texas-Dallas (64-
59 OT). The Quakers fell to eventual national
champion Washington-St. Louis (58-77)
before ending the season year with a 79-67
win over Franklin & Marshall in the national
consolation game.

Before joining NCAA Division III in
1991, Guilford competed in the NAIA and
posted an 9-7 mark in seven national tournament
appearances. Led by future NBA players
M.L. Carr ’73, World B. Free ’76 and Greg
Jackson ’74, the Quakers won the 1973 NAIA
men’s basketball title.

Guilford won a school record
32 games in 1969-70 (32-5) and placed
fourth in the NAIA tourney.

Meeting Williams College
Tonight’s game is the first meeting between
the schools in Guilford’s recorded basketball
history.

Scouting the Quakers
A balanced offense, solid defense and experienced
lineup have carried Guilford to a 30-
2 record and its the best regular-season mark
(23-2) in the program’s distinguished history.
