Rhodes goads Greensboro: Lynx nips Pride

Greensboro, NC — Vince Grasso (St. Petersburg, Fl/St. Pete High School) and Josh Montague (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) both had three hits but Rhodes College defeated Greensboro College, 7-5, at McBane Field on Thursday. The defeat halted a three-game Pride winning streak.

Rhodes improved to 14-6 and Greensboro dropped to 7-14.

Montague went 3-4 with three runs and Grasso was 3-3 with one run. Designated hitter Jeff Guerrie (Lewisville, NC/West Forsyth) added two base hits for The Pride. Guerrie, Grasso and Montague all had a double in the game. GC out-hit the Lynx, 10-9.

The home club jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. RC, however, tagged starter Spike Upchurch (White Cross, NC/Cedar Ridge) with four runs in the third and three more in the fourth frame for its runs.

GC reliever David Schilling (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsburg High School) closed the game for The Pride. He did not allow a run and gave up just two hits in his 5 1/3 innings of work.

For Rhodes, James Todd picked up the win and Taylor Babich got the save. At the plate, Andy Boucher was 3-4 with two runs scored for the Lynx.

Greensboro College returns to USA South play on Saturday. NC Wesleyan visits for a 1 p.m. game at War Memorial Stadium.
