Greensboro College athletes earn USA South honors

Greensboro College athletes Michael Manfro and Layne Woodard earned USA South player of the week honors for their respective sports, the conference announced today.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Michael Manfro (Fauquier, VA/Notre Dame Academy) – The junior earned a 1-0 record in two appearances last week for The Pride. In a 9-0 (seven-innings) victory over Arcadia, Manfro tossed the third no-hitter in Greensboro’s program history as he allowed just one base runner on a walk while striking out 11. In his only other action of the week, Manfro earned a no-decision as he went seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts as The Pride fell in 12 innings to USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan, 5-2.

Lacrosse Player of the Week
Layne Woodard ( East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) Greensboro – The junior midfielder tallied six goals and four assists with 17 draw controls, one caused turnover and one groundball as The Pride posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 9-6 win to SUNY-New Paltz, Woodard scored two goals and added a game-high two assists with a game-high eight draw controls and one caused turnover. In a 19-3 victory over USA South foe Methodist, Woodard tallied four goals with two assists, a game-high nine draw controls and one groundball.
