Winners of two trying to make it three: From the MEAC, it’s N.C. A&T in the WNIT

How about one the best collegiate teams in Guilford County over the last several years, the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies basketball team?????

They are the 3-time defending MEAC Champions. They have featured the conference
player of the year, the rookie of the year, and a bevy of all conference selections
in the past 4 seasons. Last year, as tournament champs, they received an automatic bid to the NCAA where they were the highest seeded MEAC team (men or women) in NCAA history at #14. They lost to ACC champs and #3 seeded Florida State by 5 in the 1st round in 2009.

This year, although conference champs, they were upset in the 1st round of their own
conference tournament. However, that has only served to motivate these young ladies
in their bid to become champions of the Women’s NIT. In the last week alone, NC
A&T traveled to Wake Forest and resoundingly defeated them 73-49. Then, on Sunday, and again on the road, they beat UNC-Charlotte 79-70 in Halton Arena. For more on this exciting season, you can visit www.ncataggies.com.

Now, the Lady Aggies are one of the final 16 teams in the NIT and again will hit the
road to take on yet another ACC team, the University of Miami, this Thursday night.
Regardless of the fact that Wake Forest defeated Miami earlier this season, Coach
Patricia Cage Bibbs and her squad will be prepared and hungry as they continue their
pursuit of what has already been the most successful year of any Historically Black
College/University (HBCU) in history. I should also point out the “Aggie” faithful
have shown tremendous support for these ladies, and have far outnumbered the home
fans during this post season.

In 2008, ESPN said that NC A&T’s Corbett Sports Center was one of the top 15 places in the nation where every basketball fan should visit to enjoy a game. Believe me, the “Cameron Crazies” don’t have nothing on the “Dawg Pound”…well, except for the body paint. You probably won’t see much of that in Corbett.
