Greensboro College to honor best-ever hoops team

Greensboro College will recognize the 2008-09 women’s basketball team on Tuesday, March 30. The recognition will take place during the seventh inning stretch of the 6 p.m. baseball game vs. Guilford at NewBridge Bank Park.

The team completed the best statistical season of any previous GC hoops team. The Pride was 27-3 and produced a .900 winning percentage. No other Greensboro College basketball team won more games or posted a better win percentage.

GC finished an unprecedented18-0 in conference play and captured the USA South regular season crown. For the fourth time in five seasons the team advanced to the NCAA tournament–its first ever as an at large selection. The Pride reached #18 in the national rankings and won a program-record 21 straight games.

GC defeated Mississippi College in the first round of the NCAA tournament–the program’s second-ever postseason win–before falling to host Oglethorpe.

Each member of the program will receive a special award recognizing the team’s achievements. Additionally, an extra large poster will be placed in Hanes Gym as a tribute to their benchmark season.
