College Baseball Tuesday

Guilford – 2
Greensboro – 0

(at NewBridge Bank Park)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Alex Starbuck (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) had three
hits, including a homer, and Zach Daw (Morganton, N.C./Freedom) threw seven
scoreless innings in Guilford College’s 2-0 baseball win over Greensboro
College Tuesday night at NewBridge Bank Park.

Starbuck missed hitting for the cycle by a triple in his team-leading
12th multiple-hit game. He raised his batting average to .522 (12-23)
over his last five games and .379 for the year.

Starbuck hit his fourth homer of the year, a solo shot to right field, with
one out in the third inning to give Guilford a 2-0 lead. The Quakers (13-13)
opened the game’s scoring in the second on D.J. Phillips’ (Monroe,
N.C./Parkwood) sacrifice fly.

Daw (1-2) fanned seven in seven innings before giving way to sophomore Eric
Backus (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill), who earned his first save. The Pride
loaded the bases with no out in the seventh inning before Daw retired three
straight to work out of the jam.

Matt Nettesheim and Tyler O’Neill both had two hits for Greensboro (10-19).

Guilford returns to action Wednesday (3/31) against visiting Averett
University at 3:00 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Mar. 28.
