Marsharee Neely(Page HS) in Slam Dunk Contest tonight on ESPN

INDIANAPOLIS, IN– ODU senior Marsharee Neely (Greensboro, NC. Page HS) has been selected to compete in the 22nd annual State Farm College Slam Dunk Championships in Bracket Town in Spalding Arena which is located at the indiana Convention Center. The event will be shown on ESPN Thursday(TONIGHT) night from 9-11 p.m.

Neely will compete against Gerard Anderson (Cal St. Fullerton); Marqus Blakeley (Vermont); Ryan Brooks (Temple); Marquez Haynes (UT-Arlington); Lazar Hayward (Marquette); Chris Roberts (Bradley) and L.D. Williams (Wake Forest).

Brad Nessler, Jimmy Dykes and Holly Rowe will be the announcing team for ESPN.

Neely started 10 of 35 games for the Monarchs with a 5.5 point per game average. He hit .714 from the free throw line and .397 from the floor as well as 2.9 rebounds per game.

Neely scored a career high tying 20 points against Missouri. He scored in double figures eight times, including twice in the CAA Tournament. Neely also hauled down eight rebounds against VCU in the CAA semi-finals.

The last Monarch to ever compete in this event was Michael Williams in 2001.

    I made my annual trip to Indy for the Final Four, as i was walking downtown Indy i ran into Neely and LD Williams from Wake Forest. I got to talk to both athletes knowing them from AAU it was great.

    Good stuff Justin and we wish both young men good stuffs tonight and especially Neely since he is from Greensboro, but LD is not far off coming in from Mocksville….Let’s pull the former Page Pirate through tonight and something tells me that Julius Brooks and many other former Pirates will be watching this….
