No. 4 seed North Carolina (20-16) will take on No. 3 seed Dayton (24-12) in the finals of the NIT. Dayton knocked off Ole Miss, 68-63, in the first semifinal on Tuesday while North Carolina beat Rhode Island in overtime, 68-67. North Carolina is 13-4 in the NIT and is making its second appearance in the NIT title game and the first since 1971. Carolina is 28-9 all-time in Madison Square Garden. Dayton has won two NIT titles in 22 appearances and has a 39-20 NIT record, including 25-11 at Madison Square Garden. The Flyers’ last appearance was 2008 when they made the quarterfinals. Carolina and Dayton are tied at 1-1 in the series between the schools. Dayton beat Carolina in the national semifinals in 1967 and Carolina beat Dayton in 2006 in the regular season.

Last Time: Carolina beat Dayton 81-51 in the Smith Center on December 31, 2006. Carolina held Dayton to just 30.5% shooting, 21.9% in the first half. Carolina shot 53.4%, including 56.7% in the second half, and led by as many as 36. Tyler Hansbrough led Carolina with 17 points while Brandan Wright hit 16 and Wayne Ellington added 15. Ty Lawson and Danny Green each had seven assists. Brian Roberts and Marcus Johnson each had 14 points for Dayton while Monty Scott added 11.
