Final:
Southeast Guilford 3
Western Guilford 2

*****SEG moves to (10-1) overall and WG falls to (9-3)…..*****
WP:Ty Powell SEG
Save:Josh Tobias SEG
LP:Nin Marrero WG

HR’s:Josh Tobias SEG
Nin Marrero WG
Macon Smith WG
*****Back-to-back HR’s by Marrero and Smith in the sixth inning to cut the lead to one and Western had two men on, with two men gone, in the top of the seventh, when Macon Smith hit a hard liner to right field and that ball was hauled in by Adam Kirkpatrick and the Falcons hang on to win and now they advance to meet the winner of Graham(Ranked #2 in the state 2-A poll)-Western Alamance in tomorrow night’s Championship Game at 7pm at the Graham Middle School…..Jack McKeon’s grandson Avery Booker is on the Western Alamance squad and the Warriors are ranked #10 in the most recent Impact Baseball 3-A Poll, that came out on Sunday(yesterday)….

I can’t believe that Southeast Guilford is not ranked in the Impact Baseball Poll for 4-A teams and Western is ranked and SEG just beat them and Ragsdale is ranked and SEG defeated Ragsdale 9-2 at Ragsdale…..Not to take anything away from Ragsdale or Western, but who is doing this poll????? I still can’t believe that SEG is not ranked and Southeast is currently the top team in all of Guilford County……

The Falcons will have to forget about the polls for awhile and focus on their opponent they’ll be facing in Tuesday night’s Championship Game…..Good Luck to the Falcons and Western did a great job of battling back, to get right back into today’s game and had 2 men in scoring position, with the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second base when the game ended this afternoon…..*****

Now in the top of fifth inning:
SEG 3
WG 0

After 2 innings:
Southeast Guilford 1
Western Guilford 0

HR:Josh Tobias for SEG as the leadoff man in the bottom of the first and Josh hit it into the pine trees at the Graham Middle School….

Pitching for SEG:Ty Powell
Pitching for WG: Nino Marrero
*****Big catch by Western’s Joe Turkson to save a run or two as he hauled in a long fly ball up against the fence in centerfield…..*****
+++++On radio the word on Tobias was strong and fast with power and wheels, the full bore engine-block for the young man headed to the Florida Gators…..+++++

Time will tell who the best team is when everyone gets their best 9 on the field. Reality is there are 3-4 teams that on any given night can beat each other. SEG, SWG, Ragsdale and WG. And all of those teams can be upset on any given night by anyone. Personally I don’t know if any of those 4 should be ranked in the Impact poll but all are pretty good.

Very good points Kevin and today we didn’t see it early, but later on this game with SEG-WG actually lived up to the hype, all the way down to the final out with two Hornets left stranded on base…..

    #1 SEG
    #2 Ragsdale
    #3 WG
    #4 Dudley
    #5 NEG
    #6 SWG
#7 NG*******That is how they would stack up if you look at the current Super Seven Poll, which only exsists in theory at this current time…..*****

    Any takers?????

One final thought and it may seem a little self-serving, but I really enjoyed hyping up this game and I hope the fans got as excited about it as I did….A fun time on and off the field…..

  • bbfan said,

Andy switch the #6 for the #1 team and the poll would be correct, I think SWG beat SEG.

  • Talvin said,

Do you have scores from the games earlier in the day to post from the Graham event on Monday> Thanks.

  • ballman said,

who won the western alamance vs. grahm game ???

  • pat said,

Northern beat N E and Dudley twice last year and split with Western. They are more mature and have better pitching. They beat Westchester for the second time this year and Carter didn’t pitch either game. They can beat any team in Guilford County on any given night. With Carter on the mound they would be Favored.

  • Andy said,

SEG has a better overall record than SWG and SEG defeated Ragsdale and Ragsdale topped SWG….

    Right now, SEG is #1…….

  • Andy said,

I did not get the WA-Graham score, but I am pretty sure that Alamance Christian came out on top of Durham Science and Arts….I listened to some of the ACS and DSA game and the Warriors of ACS were on top most of the way…..

Day 2 ResultsApril 5, 2010 Graham High School
    By Denis Vass

In what was the most blatant display of umpiring ever seen, Graham “lost” to Western Alamance tonight 11-10 in a game to determine a spot in tomorrow’s championship game. Calls were missed, plays were blown, and interpertation of game rules were wrongly made.

Graham’s catcher Matt Roberts was ejected, as well as Graham coach Chad Holland in a hotly contested game in the top of the 7th inning. This writer has never witnessed such a sorry state of authority displayed by an umpire in 42 years of being involved in baseball. It was downright pathetic.

Both teams combined for 20 walks and 3 hit batters, a large part due to the pitchers’ growing frustration with the calls made behing home plate.

The Red Devils scratched and fought their way back from a 10-1 defecit, as the Warriors scored 9 runs in the 4th, largely aided by 8 walks issused by the man in blue. The Red Devils scored 3 runs in the 5th, 5 more in the 6th, and 1 in the 7th before the circus began. At least one run was lost due to incompetence.

Ty Osborne led the Red Devils going 3 for 4. Cody Dix batted 2 for 4 and scored 3 runs, while Matt Roberts was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s before being tossed in the 7th on a verry very bad strike call in the 7th.

Adam Huffman led the Warriors, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. he was the lone batter for Western Alamance with more than 1 hit. The Warriors had 8 hits total.

Western scored 1 run in the 5th inning, which turned out to be the game winning run. Taylor Collins singled, and scored on Adam Huffman’s triple.

In the afternoon’s first semi-final game, Southeast Guilford advanced to tomorrows championship game, scratching out a 3-2 win over Western Guilford.

For the Falcons, Josh Tobias smashed the 2nd pitch for a mammoth home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning to post Southeast to a 1-0 lead. They scored 2 more runs in the 3rd when Blake Butler singled, Josh Tobias was intentionally walked, both runners advanced on a wild pitch by Hornet pitcher Nin Marrero, Burler scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Tiger Miller, and Tobias scored on Colby Keene’s single.

The Hornets got back in the game when Nin Marrero and Macon Smith each hit solo shots in the 6th inning. They had runers on 3rd and 2nd in the top of the 7th with 1 out, but Josh Tobias, pitching in relief of starter Ty Powell for the Falcons, got 2 fly ball outs to escape with the win.

In the day’s earlier losers brackets, Eastern Alamance smashed Chatham Central 12-3, while Alamance Christian whitewashed Durham School of the Arts 7-0.

Eastern Alamance was led by Michael gasque, who was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI. Ryan Couch was 2 for 2, while Nick Monroe was 2 for 4. Monroe also picked up the win asthe pitcher.

For Alamance Christian, Lance Brown hit 2 for 4, while Caleb Clapp, Jon Racke, and Benton Tuck had one hit each. Micah Denny picked up the win, pitching 6 innings of no-hit ball, satriking out 12 Bulldogs, while walking only 2. Durham School of the Arts stroked their first hit of the tournament when Josh Sawyer singled to start the 7th inning.

    Tomorrow’s schedule is as follows:
7th place: 10:00 am- Chathem Central vrs Durham School of the Arts
5th place: 1:00 pm- Eastern Alamance vrs Alamance Christian
3rd place: 4:00 pm- Graham vrs Western Guilford
1st place: 7:00 pm- Western Alamance vrs Southeast Guilford

Got the Avery Booker and Casey McKeon sounds nice, how about that for a name, has a nice ring to it….Back to the games…

You people have NO IDEA what you are talking about! Hence, the deterioration of high school athletics in this area!

Understand Matt’s frustration but showing up umpires usually doesn’t get you anywhere. Pitchers need him to befriend those umps. Plus as good as he his teams needs him on the field. Matt is very talented and is going to get drafted. Hopefully he’ll learn this. As a catcher he can’t continue to argue with umpires. We all get inconsistent umps from time to time. They drove me crazy in all my playing days. While frustrating, how you deal with them will make you better.
