GREENSBORO, N.C. – Visiting Randolph-Macon College swept an Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball doubleheader from Guilford College
Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets won the opener, 7-2, and the nightcap, 9-3.
Randolph-Macon improved to 15-12 (10-4 ODAC) with the wins, while Guilford
dropped to 13-20 (5-10).

In game one, Michael Helbig (3-1) scattered seven hits and yielded two
seventh-inning runs in a seven-inning, complete-game pitching effort. Jordan
Walton went 2-2 with a double and two RBI for the Yellow Jackets. He reached
base four times and scored three runs. Teammate Jeb Weymouth also had two
hits. Randolph-Macon took advantage of eight walks and two hit batsmen
issued by three Guilford hurlers.

Walton had an RBI double in Randolph-Macon’s three-run first inning in the
nightcap. He finished with three hits and three RBI.

The Yellow Jackets took a 7-0 lead in the third inning thanks to two-run
homers by James Bierlein and Kevin Davis. Davis was 4-6 with two RBI and
teammate Corey Jackson added three hits.

Randolph-Macon’s 17 hits supported starting pitcher Kyle Hicks (5-1), who
gave up two unearned runs in six innings. Byron Mendenhall earned a
three-inning save, his first of the season.

Guilford’s Casey Mann shared game-high honors with four hits and teammate
Kyle Wooden went 3-4 with an RBI in the Quakers’ seventh straight setback.

In between games, Guilford dedicated the Stuart T. Maynard ’43 Batting
Center in honor of its long-time coach and instructor. Maynard, who turns 92
next week, won 436 games as the Quakers’ head baseball coach from 1952-84.
