“I’m really proud of this team as all 18 players have worked together,” said GC’s first year Head Coach Whitney Gelin. “Brittany David (Concord, NC/Northwest) gave us seven great innings of pitching. And Brittany Parsons got her first hit of the tournament at a nice time.

After a scoreless seven innings, Greensboro’s Brittany Teer (Thomasville, NC/Ledford) led off in the bottom of the eighth with a single through the left side. Tournament MVP Rebecca Pink moved her to second on one of her three hits on the day. Both advanced an extra base on the throw from right field.

All-tournament outfielder Meagan Farrell’s throw from right reached third in time to send Teer to the dugout. Parson’s line drive to center scored Pink to win the game and secure the 2010 championship and automatic qualifier to the NCAA’s, which begin on May 13.

Greensboro’s David, an all-tournament pitcher, shutout the Panthers on six hits, striking out just two. Allyson Stevens of Ferrum entered in the top of the eighth and took the loss.
