It was a wild, strange game at Ragsdale last night, as Northwest Guilford rallied to
pull out a 9 – 8 win and keep their playoff hopes alive. Ragsdale, meanwhile, drops
their third consecutive Piedmont Triad contest and falls into a second place tie
with Southwest Guilford with a 6 – 3 record, 1 1/2 games behind first place East
Forsyth and only 1/2 game ahead of fourth place Glenn. Ragsdale is scheduled to
meet Glenn in another key game tonight at home at 7:00 PM. Northwest improves to 4
– 6 in the Conference.

Northwest scored first in the opening inning on a Corey McKinney double and two
consecutive groundouts as Ben Schumucker got credit for the RBI. Ragsdale answered
with four runs in the bottom of the first as DeSean Anderson led off with a single
and scored on a Ben Fultz triple. Fultz scored on a Walt Sparks groundout. After
Billy Stone got a single, Zach Hodges connected with his first home run of the
season to put two more on the board and give the Tigers a 4 – 1 lead.

Ragsdale added a single run in the second on a Fultz single, a stolen base and he
came home on a Stone single for a 5 – 1 lead. Northwest bounced back in the third
on McKinney’s second hit of the night and he went to second when Nathan Becker
walked. Phillip Dixon followed with a double to left center to drive in both
runners and he later scored on a passed ball to cut the Tigers lead to 5 – 4.

Ragsdale expanded their lead in the fourth as Trey Swaim and Anderson had back to
back singles to lead off the inning. Fultz loaded the bases with a walk. Sparks
had a sacrifice fly to score Swaim and Anderson later scored on a wild pitch. After
Fultz stole second and third, he scored on Hodges base hit to up the Tiger lead to 8
– 4.

Northwest rallied in the fifth with five runs with the key hits being a double from
Becker and an RBI single from Keaton Haack another RBI single from McKinney.
Mitchell Haley also had a hit as Northwest sent ten men to the plate and took a 9 –
8 lead which would hold up as Duncan Everett, who came on in relief in the fourth,
would shut the Tigers down over the final three innings.

DeSean Anderson got his first start of the year for Ragsdale and worked 4 1/3
innings giving up 5 hits and 7 runs. Tyler Soutcott came on in relief and pitched
the final 2 2/3 giving up 3 hits and 3 runs to suffer the loss. Ben Saunders
started for Northwest and went 3 + innings giving up all 8 Tiger runs. Duncan
Everett was outstanding in relief, only allowing 3 hits and 0 runs in 4 innings of
work as he picked up the win.
