GREENSBORO — Toney Baker waited three long days and didn’t get to hear his name called in the NFL draft.

But moments after the Detroit Lions took Weber State wide receiver Tim Toone with the 255th and final pick Saturday afternoon, Baker’s phone rang.

The team on the other end surprised him.

The Denver Broncos signed Baker as an undrafted free agent Sunday. Baker, a running back who starred at Ragsdale High and N.C. State, reports to a minicamp in Denver on Thursday.

“It’s funny, but you know what? That was the first time I heard from them,” Baker said. “I talked to a lot of teams before the draft, but never the Broncos. I guess they had their eye on me the whole time. I just never knew it.
