Alex Starbuck(East Forsyth HS/Guilford College) earns ODAC honors

SALEM, Va. – Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball coaches
selected Guilford College senior Alex Starbuck (Kernersville, N.C./East
Forsyth) as an honorable mention all-conference selection, league officials
announced Wednesday.

Starbuck, a 5-10, 170-pound outfielder, led the Quakers’ hitters with a
career-high .370 batting average over 36 games and won the team’s McBane
Hitting Award. The left-handed batter tied the school record with 17 doubles
this season, which stands second among ODAC leaders through games of Apr.
25. Starbuck also led Guilford with 51 hits and 29 runs scored, both career
highs, and had four homers and 24 runs batted in. He totaled a team-high 17
multiple-hit contests and enjoyed a 13-game hitting streak, Guilford’s
longest of the season. The left-fielder went 4-for-6 with two RBI in the
Quakers’ Mar. 23 loss to Roanoke College and was 3-for-4 with three doubles
and a season-best five RBI in a Mar. 6 ODAC win over Emory & Henry College.

A four-year starter, Starbuck completed his career as a .326 hitter with 14
homers and 87 RBI. He had 50 doubles in 146 games, the second-highest total
in school history. His 115 career runs stand 12th all-time at Guilford.
Starbuck won Guilford’s 2010 English Athletic Leadership Award, the school’s
highest athletic honor, and will graduate in May with a degree in
psychology. He is a three-time Academic All-ODAC selection and was voted to
the 2009 Second Team *ESPN The Magazine*/CoSIDA All-District 3 squad.

Starbuck helped coach Nick Black’s ’10 club to a 14-23 overall record, 5-13
in the ODAC. Black expects 35 letter winners back for 2011.
