  1. Congrats to Western. That was one heck of a ballgame. Both teams played their hearts out and left it all on the field. The umps did a good job. Glad to see that they had 3 working this game.

It is very disappointing to play so well this year and come up one run short but that’s baseball. The playoffs should be exciting if this game is any indicator.

  2. What I saw was a good game, but as soon as you came out with news on how you were the only coach for the job, give me liberty or give me death. Death seems to be the only way out for Southeast. Saw the Dudley game too, they lost that game also, thanks to the umps, SE won. Felt sorry for Dudley, the umps were clearly out of position. Southeast has lost three games in a row, now playing against Ragsdale in the first game , in conference tour , see ya, have a good summer. I was told that the boy on short for SE was going to the SEC, is this true Andy? What are they looking at? Bank of America banking account says the two WG shortstops that played are bigger, faster and most important, looked more fluid and game savy. Saw the Dudley team at the game also, class act, peaking at the right time. What happened to the Adam kid for SE , he signed with Guilford right? Good pitcher. They said he did not pitch against their loss against Grove, why were you saving him SE? He did not pitch last night. He is one of the better pitchers in 4a. The SE shortstop is not. Saw the save in Burlington, he’s got to have a 4 or 5 era. Also Andy, SE seems to be missing players since the last time i saw them, the three college coaches that were there, left in the 3rd. Sorry if I’m making anyone mad, just seems like SE is playing for a seeding bracket pool. Win an easy pool and your in the next round. Sorry SE fans, but I drove 1hour 15 min to do story. Frustrated to see a completely different team. Now you only have my personal thoughts, on the Greensboro Sports website. I will still be doing the news for BA, come on guys prove me wrong.

  3. Adam pitched Tuesday deep versus Dudley and Tobais came on late to get the win…

PG game was supposed to be Weds. and got moved to Thursday and WG was ready for 7 full on Friday…

Tyler Faggart and Dylan Shutt both potential starting pitchers for SEG have been out and I’m not sure about their clearence for the playoffs…Shutt can also help out in the infield if necessary and he has a good bat…

We’ll know more for certain soon, like next week and it will be here in a hurry…

  4. Wow JAF not sure what game you were watching if you didn’t think the “boy” on short and the rest of the SE team played very hard. Maybe you missed the two foot jump in the air to catch a line drive and save a run. Maybe you were getting a hotdog when he took the forearm from a dirty player from WG but still held onto the ball to get the out. He pitched well and was one strike away from sealing the deal when the WG player hit the ball in an area he probably would have gotten to at short. There is no kid I have seen this season with more heart, leadership ability, speed, quickness, game knowledge, or overall baseball skill than JT. I could whine about the umpires like so many of you love to do when your team gets the loss but you know all that and where the lucky ball lands is just baseball.

We were missing some key players due to injury. JT was nailed on the mound at the Dudley game with a line drive after he was already injured but I guess you missed that too. You certainly miss a lot to be a reporter…maybe you should stay at home and keep your mouth shut for the playoffs.

  5. Josh Tobias is for real and a good kid. Has 4 of 5 tools. Speed, arm, hit for average, and glove. Power will come. Is he SEC material? Not sure but it’s not our call. Baseball recruiting in generalk is a mystery. Just ask Elon. They are 6-0 vs. the ACC this year.

  6. I was about to post some words in reply to just a fan in support of Josh Tobias, which are really unnecessary because his play speaks for itself, and then I see where sefan couldn’t resist calling one of WG’s kids a dirty player for the way he went into 2nd base during the game.

    So I’ll redirect.

Just for the record, the kid you think you have status enough to call dirty wouldn’t think of putting a dirty slide on a covering SS, but much less Josh Tobias, a player for whom he has had nothing but respect for years.

He went in hard, hoping it was hard enough to jar the ball out; but what would you want runners to do in a game that decides a conference championship? Forearm up in front of his own face on a tag play while coming straight into the bag is a whole lot different than sliding out of the basepath at a defender or extending or throwing his forearm at him. There was an umpire standing right over the play, if they’re had been something dirty, it couldn’t have been missed.

You seem real quick to condemn opposing players and just as quickly justify everything that your guys do. In the heat of a competitive, meaningful game, kids are likely to do everything more intensely and maybe more aggressively than they other times would, but I’m in a position to assure you that the runner you’re talking about wouldn’t think of trying to hurt an opponent, much less one he respects as much as Josh. You’ve also got people (coaches) in your dugout who can tell you he’s not a dirty player, but you probably don’t want to let a kids’ reputation come into the equation unless it reinforces your own bias.

I won’t mention the fact that if the balk had been called, none of it would have happened in the first place.

  7. You are right to a point OP. I have no idea of the character of the WG player so saying dirty player was not appropriate. I will give you the “heat of the momment” defense. I will say that it looked like the player went after JT with a forearm that would probably have taken a lesser player out of the game.

I find it very ironic that JAF jumped on one of the most talented players to play in Guilford County in years just because we lose a hard fought game by one run. What would his story been if we won the game when we all know that a call this way or that or a ball that hops left or right determines most one run games.

Also thanks for reinforcing my point that most of the time spent here is whining about umps. I certainly remember the ump whining going on when we beat WG by 10+ at home. That’s when you should have been saying “oh please”.

  8. Your beef is not with me sefan, it’s with the 1b umpire; he’s human and he let the balk get by him but had the character to admit that he “might have” afterward and when they own it that way, you’ve no choice but to drop it just like WG did.

However, my point is that it created a situation where a baserunner who spends his share of time in the weightroom is a sitting duck unless there’s a bad throw, going into a bag covered by another kid who is also a powerful and well-trained athlete. The runner is going in hard and the defender isn’t going to give any ground at all. It’s bound to result in a collision where either kid could have gotten hurt but neither kid was going to give any ground because that’s how they both play. I don’t think it will come as a surprise to you that sliding into a bag covered by Josh is no stroll through the flower garden.

Now as for the “fan” guy, nothing he said was credible because Josh is clearly one of the best all around baseball players in the class of 2011. That is probably the one and only baseball matter that you and I are ever going to agree on.

  9. just to let you all know you’re talking about the “missed” balk call what about the homerun to right field it did not go over the fence and the 1st base umpire admitted it to the right fielder for SE the ball hit the fence bounced straight up and came back in play! That cost 1 run maybe 2 because that would have ended the inning on the next out

  10. I’m sure we would agree on a lot more if we were to sit down and talk baseball. My beef really was with JAF. I overstated my point in my original post because I was “distrubed” by his comments. I think we both would agree that he did not watch the same game we did?

The game really is over now and it is on to post season. WG won and they are the deserving conference champs! Congrats and may the best team win the tourney.

  11. josh tobias is a great kid . he is very humble and loves the game of baseball. if you cant see that in this kid when you see him play you are crazy. i had the pleasure of talking with his dad and to watch him play and what his dad said about him is very up lifting. this kid can play any where for any body. he is a talent 5 tool player and this guy says is he going to the sec ? yes he is , an he is good enough to go any where he wants. why do people hate on some one thats good , i dont understand it. he will get drafted and his future is very bright , and the reporter that was reporting what game were you watching ? you must have been at the grasshoppers game because if you know baseball then you wouldnt be questioning this kid skills. so go crawl back under a rock and come out when you have a clue on what you seeing versus what you are reporting. good luck josh tobias you are a player you dont have to prove anything. ps can some one tell me what an sec player looks like?

  12. The fence down right field where the banners are, is not part of the field. It is several inches past the field fence. That fence was placed there to protect soccer fans. It is not connected to the field fence and any balls that bounce off the yellow piping and then off the back fence are considered HR’s. I hope this helps.

  13. In response to r u serious closing question…the SEC player that JT reminds me of the most is one from Davidson Co. I think he is similar to Tyler Hanover in a lot of ways. Hanover started at 3b for LSU as a FR and I think he’s at 2b for them now, but the two of them have similar frames and styles of play from what I’ve seen them.

I’m a WG follower and don’t want to get too far afield here, but I think the guy who posted as “just a fan” was trying to bust on SEG’s coach via the back door and threw Josh under the bus just to get his point across. Sounds like somebody who might have applied for the SE job and didn’t get it.

  14. oh please you are right . i have seen tyler play also the second baseman at carolina as well when he played at north davidson. people just kill me with their bias remarks.

  15. We all approach the game from some angle and Josh Tobias has been on a direct route to success since he first took the field for Dave Beasley back in the 7th/8th grade at the Southeast Guilford Middle School……

One of the hardest working kids that I have seen and the Florida Gators are getting a good one unless some pro team beats them to him first at the end of next season….
