Lee(Fowler) the AD out at N.C. State

from www.gopack.com:

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina State Director of Athletics, Lee Fowler, will step down effective June 30, Chancellor Randy Woodson announced today. Woodson will name an interim director prior to Fowler’s departure and a national search will begin immediately for his replacement, he said.*****(When the new chancellor Randy Woodson came in, it looked as if the handwriting was on the wall, for Lee Fowler as Atheltic Director, at N.C. State…..Greensborosports.com)*****

“Lee Fowler and I talked on Monday and we agreed that now is the appropriate time to make a change,” said Woodson.

The chancellor expressed his appreciation for Fowler’s accomplishments, which include the successful completion of a seven-year, $120 million capital campaign for the University Athletic Association that resulted in new athletic facilities and additional academic support for all NC State teams and student-athletes.

“I’ve made many friends and worked with terrific coaches, athletes and administrators at NC State,” Fowler said. “I am honored to have served this university for 10 years, but this is the right time for me and my family to seek other opportunities.”

The university said it would honor its obligations to Fowler under his employment contract. The contract expires on Sept. 30, 2013 and calls for Fowler to receive an annual salary of $280,000.

“We would like to thank Lee for his commitment to NC State over the years and wish him and his family success in the future,” Woodson said.

EXPANDED STATEMENT FROM LEE FOWLER REGARDING THE ANNOUNCEMENT:

“Naturally I am disappointed that I will not see firsthand the fruits of 10 year’s work, but I have the greatest confidence that with the caliber of facilities and coaches we now have, along with a talented and dedicated administrative staff, the athletics program is poised for great success going forward.

I thank Chancellors Fox, Oblinger, Woodward and Woodson for the privilege of working under their excellent leadership. I want to thank and acknowledge Donn Ward and the great NC State faculty for their unwavering support.

Additionally, my family and I want to express our thanks for the outpouring of love and support we’ve received. Finally, I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His faithfulness in guiding my decisions and look forward to what His blessings will bring to NC State and me.”

  1. Not a chance. Cobb may be lucky to keep his job at Ap.

How about Susan Yow at Maryland? State grad, NC native and current AD at a D1 program. Search firm has been hired to assist. I’m betting it’s not an insider. I’m betting they get a up and comer from a smaller program.

    NCSU can now move forward.

  2. Debbie Yow at Maryland would be a great choice if N.C. State decides to go that route.

Susan Yow has been offered the assistant coaches job at Illinois State where former Wolfpack women’s assistant, Stephanie Glance, is now the head coach. Susan Yow has been at Belmont Abbey in recent years….

Debbie Yow was once the Assistant AD at UNCG, to Nelson Bobb and it would be nice to see her return to her home state…..She has done a super job at Maryland….

The name of former N.C State men’s basketball player Gary Stokan has come up…I have never heard of him, but he is the President and CEO of the Chick-fil-A Bowl and he said his first move as new N.C. State AD would be to move the men’s basketball game back to the on-campus Reynolds Coliseum…..Stokan said Reynolds Coliseum provides a competitive edge that the RBC Center can never create….

“Move the basketball games back to Reynolds and leave the RBC Center behind”, says Stokan……Stokan also has several renovation ideas for the on-campus Reynolds Coliseum……
