Ragsdale won their first round Piedmont Triad Conference tournament game on Wednesday night, defeating the # 6 seed Parkland Mustangs by a 12 – 5 score. With the win, the # 3 seed Tigers advance for a Semi-Final matchup with # 2 seed Southwest Guilford on Friday night at SWG at 5:00 PM.

Ragsdale scored in each of the first four innings to build up a 10 – 0 lead and appeared set to wrap the game up early. Zach Hodges was on the mound and had breezed through the first four innings allowing only one hit, a Tyler Boone double in the fourth, and had not allowed a run. Things fell apart for the Tiger defense in the fifth as Parkland sent 9 men to the plate and Ragsdale committed 4 errors. The four errors combined with a walk and one base hit allowed the Mustangs to score 5 unearned runs and prevent Ragsdale from winning by virtue of the “10 run rule”. After the disastrous fifth, Hodges only faced 6 batters over the last two innings as he collected a complete game win improving his record to 6 – 2 on the season.

Walt Sparks was the Tigers leading hitter as he went 3 for 4 with a first inning three run homer and two doubles. Sparks drove in 4 runs on the night and scored three runs. Hodges and Mike Whited had multiple hit nights for the Tigers as Hodges went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI while Whited also went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Ragsdale had 12 hits on the night as eight different players hit safely.

Tyler Boone got the start for the Mustangs and took the loss as he went 3 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits.

Ragsdale improves to 16 – 6 and advance to the second round of the Conference Tournament. Parkland wraps up their season with a 7 – 15 record.
