LUBBOCK, Texas — Elon junior Neal Pritchard(Asheboro HS) is one of 25 candidates on the quarterfinalist list for the 2010 Brooks Wallace Award which is presented annually to the nation’s top shortstop by the College Baseball Foundation. Pritchard is the lone Southern Conference member among the 25.

The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will presented July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show. The revised list features shortstops from 15 conferences.

Pritchard currently leads Elon (34-18 overall and 17-10 in Southern Conference play) with a .363 batting average. His 15 doubles are tied for the team high. Pritchard is the only Phoenix player to start all 50 of Elon’s contests this season. In that span, he has scored 45 runs, has nine homers, 38 RBI and is a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. Pritchard, who has been hit by 20 pitches this season, sports a .479 on-base percentage and a .584 slugging percentage. He also has 192 assists and 80 putouts.

“These players have recorded some very impressive statistics,” said Kevin Dunagan, Wallace Award co-chair. “They started the season strong and have continued to build on that success.”
