Greensboro College to face defending NCAA DIII champs in round one

Greensboro College will face defending NCAA Division III champion Messiah College in its first ever softball playoff game on Thursday in Newport News, Va. GC and the Falcons will play at Noon in the eight team regional, hosted by USA South rival Christopher Newport.

The Pride (27-13-1) is seeded fifth and Messiah (35-7) is fourth in the regional. The winner faces the victor of Eastern Mennonite and top-seeded Salisbury at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Should GC lose game one, it plays on Friday at 10 a.m.

In 2009, Messiah College went undefeated through the postseason to capture the program’s first Division III softball national title with a 2-0 win over Coe College in Montclair, New Jersey.
