Hershey, Pa. — The Greensboro College golf team placed 11th after shooting 301 on the final day of the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships on Friday. Ben Nihart placed tied for 10th and earned all tournament and second team All America Honors.

The Pride’s tournament tally was 301-308-298-301–1208. Nihart went 73-74-72-74–293 for the championship. Niahrt becomes the 76th Greensboro College student-athlete to earn All America distinction. He is the 32nd golfer to win the honor.

Methodist won the event with an 1177 +29 score. They held off fast-charging Guilford which shot minus-5 for the day but fell one shot short.

“We struggled on the front nine and that did not help us,” said Pride Head Coach Dirk Fennie. “Of course we wanted to finish stronger but I’m really proud of the guys for the season.”

Sophomore Josh Nichols (Waxhaw, NC/West Fosyth) tied for 35th win a +14 (74-77-73-77–301). Juniors Brock Elder (Greensboro, NC/Vandalia Christian) and Connor Kennedy (Siler City, NC/Jordan Matthews High School) tied for 64th and were +20 for the championship. Kennedy had a 73–his best round of the event–and went 79-78-73-77–307. Elder carded rounds of 79-78-73-77.

Freshman Clint Dillon fired scores of 79-88-82-83–332 and placed tied for 11.

“We have everybody back next year,” Fennie said. “After being away from this event for five years, our program got a taste of what the nationals are about. I expect our team to strive to get back to the 2011 championships.”

Next year’s event will be held at Grandover in Greensboro.
