GREENSBORO — Top athletes from across the state of North Carolina will compete in a second consecutive busy weekend of track as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association wraps up its state track and field championships.

This weekend features 3-A championships for both men and women on Friday, and then on Saturday the 4-A championships will be held, all at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

Action in the field events will begin at 10 am and running events will start at 11 am. It will be the 90th annual men’s championships and the 39th annual renewal of the women’s event.

New Bern has won the last four 4-A men’s team championships, although Southeast Raleigh won the East Regional last weekend. Other regional winners are Charlotte Vance, Pfafftown Reagan and Raleigh Broughton.

Waxhaw Marvin Ridge captured the 2009 team title in the 3-A men’s meet. The regional meet champs for this year are Asheville, Kannapolis A.L. Brown, Eastern Alamance and Southern Nash.

Asheville T.C. Roberson is seeking its third women’s track and field title in the last four years, although Roberson has moved up to the 4-A classification in this realignment. Southeast Raleigh is the defending 4-A women’s champion, and both of those schools won their respective regional meets over the weekend. Other 4-A women’s regional winners include Winston-Salem Mount Tabor and Raleigh Wakefield.

The 3-A women’s regional champions from last weekend are North Buncombe, Weddington, Northern Guilford and Winterville South Central.

We would love to hear more from some of our readers or even the athletes that will be participating on who actually will be here from our local teams, as in, “who has qualified”??????

Do we have Breanna Warren from WG in the shot put and discus for girls, Catrina Green from WG in the same events???? How about Cedric Ellison from Ragsdale in the same events for the boys???? Did Rocco Scarfone make it in the 100/200 meters or Keenan Allen in the long jump from Northern Guilford????? How about Breanna Alston from SEG in the girls 100/200 or the Boswell kid from Smith in the boys 100/200 meters or Rashad Hayes from WG in the triple jimp or long jump….Page had a young lady that was looking very impressive in the 800/1600/ and 3200 meter runs…..Is she in for this weekend at N.C. A&T???? Page also had a young man in either the high jump or the pole vault that should have made it and NWG usually has several distance runners, male and female that qualify and the name Chelsea Hollingsworth stands out from NWG…Darius White from NEG should be here in the long jump or the triple jump for the boys 3-A’s….The Northern Guilford girls won their regional last weekend so we should be seeing some of their names up here too….

There you have it so far….

Send us some names and we will print them and we have started the realy and will pass the baton on to you and let you work the the anchor leg and get us more informed when you send us your reports…..We are in the home stretch with the meets at N.C. A&T this coming weekend……
