Greensboro College Lacrosse Coach Named Associate AD

Dan Cetrone was promoted to associate director of athletics at Greensboro College, announced Pride Athletics Director Jean Lojko.

Cetrone recently completed his 12th season as GC’s head men’s lacrosse coach. He is the program’s all-time winningest coach. Last August, Cetrone was promoted to assistant director of athletics.

“This is a well-deserved honor as Dan has done a great job in administration this past year,” Lojko said. “He has been a good mentor to our young coaching staff. As director of the recent Jim Locke Golf Tournament, Dan led one of the most successful events in its 20-year history.”

The Locke tournament is the signature event and main fundraiser for the athletics department.

Coach Cetrone is also the NCAA compliance officer and previously served as the athletics recruitment services coordinator at Greensboro College. He assists all other Pride head coaches with recruiting philosophies and protocols.

The 2010 Pride men’s lacrosse team posted another impressive season. GC went 9-6, and was in the running for an NCAA pool B bid late in the season. Its nine wins tied for the third most in program history. The Pride’s 19 wins over the last two years is one short of the program’s best for back-to-back campaigns. The 2009 team finished 10-5, the second best season in program history.

In 2008, Cetrone was selected to lead the South team in the prestigious North-South Senior All Star Game. He directed his club to 16-15 come-from-behind victory in Boston, Mass.

Cetrone coached his first All-American, Matt Perry, in 2006. He has mentored three North-South All-Stars and two USILA Scholar All-American at GC. Nick Patrone played in the North-South game and was a scholar All American in 2010.

When he is not on campus, Cetrone helps the growth of the game of lacrosse in the Triad. He is the co-director of the Old North State Indoor Lacrosse League, the Battle in the ‘Boro Showcase, UNCG’s Spartan Lacrosse Camp and the 3 Star Lacrosse Camp.

Prior to coming to Greensboro College, Cetrone was an assistant coach at Springfield College–his alma mater. He graduated from SC in 1996, contributed to an undefeated regular season and was a Division II National Runner Up in 1995. In 1994, Springfield won a Division II National Championship. His team won the ECAC New England Championship in 1993.

Cetrone, who grew up in Cheshire, CT, lives in Greensboro with his wife, Dora. They have two sons: Frankie and Matthew.
