Time To Break In A New Sports Reporter

Tom Keller of the News & Record is leaving the paper to try his hand at stand-up comedy. Now is the time to do it – while you are young. WXII’s Cameron Kent left WXII several years ago to follow his dream on the West Coast, so Tom’s not the first to leave and we hope he does well.

John Robinson at the News & Record has more, including a link to one of Tom’s performances at his blog.

Hopefully, the News & Record has some folks in mind for High School Sports coverage. They certainly have a few folks who started in local sports still on the payroll.

In the meantime, Andy is still beating the bushes, reading your emails and talking with coaches, players, principals, parent and fans. So you can still get a lot of your sports news here. Who knows, we might try to be funny from time to time.

  1. If we click our heels three times can we get Ed Hardin to leave also?? He has got to be the most negative, worst sports writer in the country. In my opinion of course.

I agree that the N&R does a pitiful job of local sports coverage. We are lucky to have Andy filling in the huge gap.

I now only buy the N&R on Sunday and it really is not worth it then. We seldom read the paper anymore.

  2. I agree w/ you sefan! The N&R covers Dudley, Page, Grimsley and sometimes Smith fairly well…Western Guilford, Northwest and Northern on a hit or miss basis…We had given up on any decent coverage until Tom came along. I will have to admit, Tom did try to get a lot of other schools covered, but the high school athletics in this area has gotten too big for one reporter to try and get it all. Thanks go to Andy and all the folks that contribute to this site for trying to get more of the schools covered.

Good Luck, Tom on your endeavor. We wish you well!
