Rebecca Pink from Greensboro College earns high honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Twelve student-athletes, representing five different schools, comprise the 2010 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Softball Team released Thursday. Greensboro College’s Rebecca Pink was picked to the unit.

A sophomore, Pink led the Pride to the USA South Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Division III playoff bid. She hit .418 with 14 doubles and 27 RBI to earn First Team NFCA All-Southeast Region laurels. The 2010 USA South Player of the Year and USA South Tournament MVP helped the Pride to a 28-15-1 overall record that included a 17-game winning streak.

The seventh-annual team consists of non-NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted the nominees, and NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams, which consist of two starting pitchers, one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders, one designated player and for the first time, a utility player.

NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional participant Lenoir-Rhyne University placed seven students on the team. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke had two all-state picks, while NCAA Division III playoff qualifier Greensboro College, Guilford College, and Wingate University each received one selection.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA, NCCAA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Over 600 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
The 2010 NCCSIA All-State Baseball teams will be announced June 11.
