Atlantic Coast Rugby League bringing the Rugby 7’s to Greensboro

GREENSBORO TO SERVE AS HOST FOR THE ATLANTIC COAST INVITATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS

The Greensboro Sports Commission and the Atlantic Coast Rugby League are
pleased to announce that the Atlantic Coast Invitational Rugby Sevens
will be held at Macpherson Stadium at Bryan Park September 11-12, 2010.
This will be the third year of the tournament with the event being held
in Raleigh and Tallahassee the previous two years.

“We are excited to bring a new and developing event to Greensboro which
will allow our city to be exposed to one of the newest Olympic sports
and to showcase Macpherson Stadium as not only a soccer stadium but a
premier multiple sport venue in Greensboro. This event also allows
Greensboro to continue its relationship with schools in the Atlantic
Coast Conference and its considerable student and fan base. This is an
opportunity for Tournament Town to expand its horizons and add a new
sport to our growing sports resume.”- Kim Strable, President of the
Greensboro Sports Commission.

“The Atlantic Coast Invitational and its participating teams are
thrilled to be coming to Greensboro in September. Macpherson Stadium
and Bryan Park is the perfect venue for our event and to be able to hold
this tournament in Greensboro is great for many reasons, not the least
of which is that this is the home of the Atlantic Coast Conference. We
are also extremely excited about transitioning the ACI to a Rugby Sevens
format. Rugby Sevens lends itself perfectly to a weekend tournament
format and we are hopeful that the event will captivate and excite the
great collegiate sports audience in Greensboro.” – Patrick Kane, 2010
Atlantic Coast Invitational Tournament Co-Director.
