Raleigh, N.C. — WRAL has learned through multiple sources that current Wolfpack Club executive director Bobby Purcell is among the six remaining candidates to become N.C. State’s next director of athletics.
Current Appalachian State athletic director Charlie Cobb is not in the final mix of six. Cobb was a member of the N.C. State athletics department from 1998 to 2005, serving as the Wolfpack’s senior associate athletics director for external operations.
Cobb, an academic All-American football player, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from N.C. State in 1990.
Bobby Purcell is in his 23rd year at N.C. State where he has served in various roles including assistant football coach, football recruiting coordinator, assistant director of the Wolfpack Club and his current role as executive director of the Wolfpack Club.
