Greensboro College has two new soccer players coming in, in Baker and Oblach

Nick Baker and Giampier Oblach have committed to play men’s soccer at Greensboro College, announced Pride Head Coach Giovanni Vlahos.

Baker is a 5’10 135 pound forward from Goldsboro, N.C. He played for the Goldsboro Sting Soccer Club and Easetern Wayne High School.

As a prep, he received all-conference honors, was team captain and MVP as a senior. The son of Jeff and Debbie Baker, Nick captained the Sting the past 4 years. He helped his club finish second in the 2009 Wilmington Seaside Classic Tournament.

“We truly are excited to welcome Nick to the GC soccer family,” said Vlahos. “He seems like a stand-up young man who’s willing to work hard to get the job done. Hopefully he’ll bring his knack for scoring goals to The Pride as well.”

Originally from El Tigrito, Venezuela, Oblach now resides in Moorisville, N.C. A 5’11, 170-pound forward, he played for the Triangle Futbol Club Navy and Panther Creek High School.

Oblach received all-conference honors and was a four year starter in high school. He helped his team win the Tri Eight Conference his junior year of high

Giampler Oblachschool. He is the son of Vanessa Caro and Walter Oblach.

“Giampier is a great addition to our program and the type of player who understands the culture that we are trying to establish here at Greensboro College,” Vlahos said. “He’s a natural goal-scorer who we think will fit in nicely with our program. He’s hungry to succeed both in the classroom and on the pitch and we expect him to make a positive impact in the GC community.”

Greensboro College is primarily an undergraduate college, also offering four master’s degrees. Coeducational and independent, the institution is located near downtown Greensboro. It was founded in 1838 and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

The college enrolls about 1,260 students from about 30 states, the District of Columbia and 21 nations. The school features a strong liberal-arts program and a 16-sport athletic program.
