I was at the downtown Central Library branch this morning, doing some web site work, and at around say 10:30am, I heard someone up front on the second level, yelling, “Get on the Floor, put your hands behind your back….Get on the Floor, put your hands behind your back” and I guess this was the on-the-run fugitive and he complied with the officers:from www.news-record.com……

GREENSBORO — A man wanted in South Carolina on robbery and assault charges, and who was featured on the TV show “America’s Most Wanted,” was arrested today in Greensboro.

Antonio Gilbert, 33, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service at a Greensboro library after authorities received a tip through the TV show. It was not immediately clear which library.

Gilbert was charged in an armed robbery at a store in Horry County on June 17, 2009. In the incident, one victim was bound with a nylon cord and stabbed several times, including in his left eye. Kimberly O’Neil and a 14-year-old were arrested in connection with the incident in June 2009.

Gilbert currently is in custody in Greensboro awaiting extradition. He is being charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, armed robbery and kidnapping.

*****Yes, I was just minding my own business and doing my work over near the upstairs windows, at the Central Library and I heard this man shouting, “Get on the Floor and Put your hands behind your back….Get on the floor and put your hands behind your back”…..*****

Just another day in the Greensborosports.com neighborhood……..The show must go on…..

  • Whodat said,

Andy, what were you doing at the library using the internet?

  • Andy said,

I don’t use the public computers….I use the public WiFi and that keeps the process at Greensborosports.com working…

I work in the back away from the maddening crowd and that enables you the reader to get better service at a great price……

I have seen security and the police crack a number of cases, but usually, I am in the back, typing away on The Daily Show at Greensborosports.com…..

  • Andy - careful on posting said,

Andy – considering that you screen all postings before they appear on the site these days, I do not think you should have let the 1st posting from “whodat” make it up on the site and you should pull it. I know “whodat” was just making a joke but it should not be at the expense of someone that may not be at fault for their situation – homeless.

  • Andy said,

We did a little edit work on whodat’s statement and that is a sensitive subject with the homeless….

There are some people that actually live in the library in the day time…They bring their belongings in, get a cubicle and spend the day, going outside a few times to get some fresh air…

At night they, I guess they retreat to the street and return the next day…

The plight of the homeless is a tough subject and I just wish some of the folks in that category, would seek a real job, bust their butts and get back in the system….

It is easier said than done, when we don’t know all the circumstances, but contrary to some writers/bloggers/etc., I am on the front line and see more than most of the general public and I pretty much try and take it in stride…

On hot days, it not uncommon to see our residents laying on the ground at the grassy knoll near the library and many of the regulars live in their cars and if that is the way they want to go, go for it…….

My motto has always been, work hard and don’t ask others for something if you are physically able to get it for yourself, through hard work and legal efforts….

The down and out will always be out there, and you have to learn and deal with it….

You do not realize the stress and pain that this fugitive has caused so many. I just wanted to say that I am in close ties with this case in Aynor. I am very well acquainted with the victim.
Did the arrestee have anything to say or did he act in any manner?
This guy is so dangerous and has caused so much terror and pain for many. You witnessed an amazing case of people helping others by tips from America’s Most Wanted. This in turn helped the US Marshalls to capture Antonio Gilbert and get another threatening thug off of the streets.

  • Andy said,

Other than the initial yelling by the US Marshalls it all went down very quickly and quietly, with very little response from the fugitive….

John Walsh and his people do good work and I read the story on what happened that morning at Aynor, which is right on the way to Myrtle Beach and that was a bad situation/encounter for the victim and his family….

Glad that justice has been served and I hope we don’t see an update on CBS’s 48 Hours/Mysteries……
