We saw two games this afternoon with the Phoenix Rudd team topping the Tennessee Flight Silver 51-46 and the Tennessee Silver Select handling the Carolina Shooting Stars, 53-44…..(The Greensboro Galaxy was set to take on the Carolina Shooting Stars at 1:45pm.)
This girl’s basketball tournament for ages 13-16 got started on Sunday at the Greensboro Sportsplex on 16th Street and it will run Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of this week, with the Championship Games set for Tuesday afternoon….
There are 45 teams participating at the Sportsplex, with 32 of the 45 squads in the 16 year-old division….There have been between 60-70 college coaches in attendance with UNC, Clemson and Kentucky among the notables, along with UNCG, Elon, High Point University and others….

Area teams include the Phoenix Elite coached by Delaney Rudd, the Greensboro Gaters coached by Kristen Schott, the Greensboro Galaxy coached by Shawn Simpson, the Phoenix Carter team, coached by Kenny Carter, The Lady Phoenix Select and The Lady Phoenix Purple, both coached by Clavon Ingram and the Team Reign squad….
Again, this a day-long event at the Greensboro Sportplex, with the Championships coming up on Tuesday afternoon…..
The Team Carter group is made up of the High Point Central Bison high school squad…Team Galaxy members include, Desiree Drayton(Dudley), Brittany Drew(Page), Chell and Lauren Jackson(Dudley), Miranda Jenkins(Eastern Guilford), Zean Lovette(Southwest Guilford) and others…..Phoenix Rudd players include, Shannon Buchannan(Southwest Guilford), Ayshia McNeil(Southeast Guilford), Kiera McIvor(Dudley), Cedrica Gibson(High Point Central), Samantha Coffer(Northern Guilford), Yahni from Finland, and others…….
