Haley Newsome has committed to play women’s soccer at Greensboro College, announced Pride Head Coach Ian Spooner.
Newsome will be a junior on the field after playing two years at Louisburg College. She made second team all region on defense both years at Louisburg for Coach Adam Reekie. Newsome was named the league defensive player of the year in her freshman season for the Lady Hurricanes.
Newsome played high school soccer at North Johnston High School in Kenly, N.C. She also played basketball all four years, tennis one year, ran cross country for two seasons, and was a four-year starter on the soccer team.
Newsome will work toward a degree in athletic training at GC.
Walters joins Tiffany Walters, T’Keyah Henry, Tinna BjarndÃs Bergþórsdóttir, Mary Randolph and Sarah Lang who previously committed to the program.
Greensboro College is primarily an undergraduate college, also offering four master’s degrees. Coeducational and independent, the institution is located near downtown Greensboro. It was founded in 1838 and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
The college enrolls approximately 1,260 students from about 30 states, the District of Columbia and 21 nations. The school features a strong liberal-arts program and a 16-sport athletic program.
