Two former Guilford County high school football players are battling for the same starting spot on the East Carolina Pirates roster…..

Justin Venable(Southeast Guilford HS) and Derek Blacknall(Dudley HS) are locked in a battle for the starting cornerback spot for first-year coach Ruffin McNeil’s ECU team….

Both kids have the speed and they can play their position, it just depends on which guy catches the coaches’ eye as pre-season practice progresses with the Pirates in Greenville, N.C.

Also like to add that according to ECU website former Page standout Matt Millisor will be doing the punting and is in a close battle to do all the kicking for the Pirates.

That’ great news and I got two words for you on that Millisor family:

    GOOD PEOPLE…….

Don’t forget another starter, Dusin Lineback. Also a Southeast Guilford graduate. He will be starting at inside lineback.

Looking forward to seeing Dustin Lineback out there as a full-time starter this year for ECU….He had a couple of very big games for the Pirates last year at LB….

Former Grimsley DB Jack Schultz should still be down there looking for a spot as well in Greenville….

Good notes on the East Carolina Pirates and their Greensboro/Guilford County ties/connections….

Good point Andy. I went back and checked the depth chart and Shultz is listed at second string at Strong safety.
