I enjoyed my trip to New York checking out the Marlins and the Mets: Fish fall 6-5

No baseball in town last night, so I jumped on my computer and went to New York, to check out the Marlins and the Mets….

The Florida Marlins were throwing their Cy Young-hopeful Josh Johnson and the Mets countered with knuckle-baller RA Dickey…..

The Mets got rolling early, going up 1-0 and then the Fish battled back, to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Mets tied it up at 2-2 after three innings…

I stayed in New York, but it was time to change my seating location and my next turn around the ballpark came on 660AM WFAN radio….The game was coming in loud and clear in my car and the Mets made sure the Marlins were not going to have an easy night of it, with the Metropolitans grabbing a 4-2 lead in the fifth….

As my wayward uncle used to say, “things can get a little tough when you reach the bottom of the fifth”, but the Marlins had some big-time bounce back in them, with former Greensboro Grasshopper, Gaby Sanchez, showing a ton of pop in his bat……

Sanchez was the Marlins’ star-of-the-game, from start to finish, going 2-3 with a home run and a double and 4 RBI’s…..Sanchez, now has 15 HR’s on the season and his RBI total has reached 66…..The double was #32 for Sanchez in 2010….

Sanchez has put up some steady numbers and should be a candidate for NL Rookie of the Year. Mike Stanton has also put up some eye-popping numbers, in a short amount of time with the Marlins, as the former Greensboro Grasshopper now has 14 HR’s and 39 RBI’s, with 16 doubles, in just 64 games, since joining the Fish in late June….

Tuesday night against the Mets, Stanton was 0-4, but the kid has been playing strong ball and was named NL Player of the Week, just two weeks ago….

The Marlins committed two costly errors last night, one by third baseman Wes Helms and the other by center fielder Cameron Maybin. Maybin got all turned around, as he went to make a catch on a fly ball to center and the kid has not found a home quite yet, in the Marlins’ outfield.

Maybin did go 2-4 at the plate and the Marlins had this game going their way as the visitors went up 5-4 in the 7th on the three-run homer by Sanchez, but the Mets came back to take the game, 6-5 over the Fish…..

It was a fun trip to New York last night, by way of the internet and my car radio and the price was right, FREE….Just about priceless, you might say and here’s the full story on the game, from www.mlb.com……
