Team(AC Reynolds) that beat Dudley last year in 4A football semis, must forfeit 1st game from this season

from Nick Stevens at HighSchoolOT at www.wralsportsfan.com:

A.C. Reynolds, the defending 4-A state champion, will forfeit their first win of the 2010 season due to the use of an ineligible player, said Que Tucker, deputy commissioner of the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported an athlete who transferred to Reynolds from Asheville High School had started high school in 2006. Rules only allow athletes to be eligible for athletics for four years or eight semesters, starting on the first day an athlete is enrolled in high school.

The athlete, who has not been identified, participated in Reynolds’ Aug. 20, game against West Forsyth. The NCHSAA ruled that Reynolds must forfeit that 20-14 win, Tucker said.

NCHSAA rules state that if a player dresses out for a game, then they have participated in the game, even if they do not step foot on the field.
