College football on the radio this past weekend in the Triad

Many of the same stations carrying the ACC Football Action, with the usual suspects calling the action, but even with that being said, here are a few of the stations where you caught the games, in Week One of the college football season…..

Last Thursday it was Wake Forest vs. Presbyterian, with Stan Cotton and Bill Urbanik on the call, on 101.1FM WZTK and also the same ISP signal coming your way on 98.1 WBRF out of Galax, Virginia….(Curtis Media moved the Carolina Panthers-Pittsburg Steelers game to 1320/1230/1200 to make room for the Demon Deacons on 101.1….)

On Saturday we had:
Appalachian vs. Chattanooga on 1320/1230/1200 with David Jackson, Steve Brown and Randy Jackson and this was another ISP presentation…..Excellent ball game by the way…..App on top at the end….

Elon vs. Duke was on 98.3 LaRazza with Bob Harris, Wes Chesson and Anthony Dilweg……Elon vs. Duke was on 920AM WPCM with Taylor Durham, John Brockwell, and others…..Harris calling Duke and Durham calling Elon…..Scott Riddle had a big game for Elon….Another ISP broadcast….

N.C. State vs. Western Carolina came in on 600AM WSJS with Gary Hahn, Johnny Evans and Tony Haynes……Game also available in the Triangle on 101.5 WRAL….Not affiliated with ISP Broadcasting…..

North Carolina vs. LSU from Atlanta was on Rush Radio 94.5, just as I had predicted earlier this year, when 94.1 made the switch to K-Love Radio…..94.5 with Woody Durham, Rick Steinbacher and Jones Angel on the call from Leerfield Sports……

N.C. A&T vs. Winston-Salem State on Saturday afternoon/night with Spencer Gwynn, Mel Swann and Billy Covington on 90.1 WNAA, the N.C. A&T campus station…..

East Carolina vs. Tulsa on Sunday from Greenville, N.C., on AM950 with Jeff Charles, Kevin Monroe and company…..ISP owns the rights to these games and Charles might just be the best radio football voice in the state/area…….(Mucho offense in this game, with ECU on top at end, 51-49.)

  1. 98.3 La Razza blew off the hour long pre-game show and, at the first time-out, played a song en espanol instead of commercials. Aside from that, well, Duke won and it was a sell-out.

  2. I tuned in for Duke at 6pm on my way to the Guilford game expecting the Duke-Elon pre-game and no go…..I did listen to some of the pre-game with the Elon guys and then caught the Duke-Elon finish with Bob Harris, Wes Chesson and Anthony Dilweg…..Heard Scott Riddle connect on that last TD for the Phoenix…

Things sure have changed a lot since the days of Ad Penfield on the Blue Devil Network….That was back when the Mitchells were waving their diapers at Wallace Wade Stadium…..

  3. BTW,

If La Razza doesn’t satisfy your South of the Border feelings, try Estrella TV on WCWG TV 20-3…..It is like being back home on the Casa de Oro…….

Honestly mi amigos, Estrella TV es muy bueno……….
