Former Grimsley coach Jeff Smouse expects his Athens Drive Jags to bounce back

It is always interesting to see what the former area coaches are up to these days and former Grimsley Whirlie football coach Jeff Smouse has been to Lumberton, Southeast Raleigh and around and now he’s at Raleigh Athens Drive and he has a team, that can put up some pretty impressive numbers, when you look closely at what they did last year….

Here is the word on Jeff Smouse and his Jags this year from Nick Stevens at the HighSchoolOT.com at WRALSportsFan.com and you can CLICK HERE to read all…..

One of the best local headlines that ran on Smouse, was in the N&R and it read after a big Grimsley win, “The Smouse That Roared”…..

Here’s the word on this year’s Smouse in the House….

Raleigh Athens Drive head coach Jeff Smouse felt good about the way his team battled in the fourth quarter against Raleigh Broughton last week, despite the Jaguars’ 23-21 loss to the Caps.

“We actually felt better after that game than we did after the Raleigh Enloe game, even though our defense played pretty well that game,” Smouse said.

The Athens Drive defense held Enloe to just six-points, but the offense only scored 19-points.

“We’ve got to work on some things,” Smouse said.

  1. His son, Scott, is the offensive coordinator for Jacksonville State, the team that shocked Ole’ Miss last weekend!

  2. it’s because he finally decided not to start his son @ quarterback!!!!! Grimsley would have been able to have the same kind of success. I hope he quits coaching before he has any grandchildren!!!
