Looking back at APP: Mountaineers’ Presley rocks and rolls Jacksonville to the tune of 45-14

from www.goasu.com:

BOONE, N.C. — Led by 386 yards of total offense from DeAndre Presley, No. 3 Appalachian State University football overcame its second-straight slow start to rout visiting Jacksonville, 45-14, on Saturday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Presley became the first player in Appalachian history to rack up 300 yards of total offense in three of his first four career starts by throwing for 285 yards and rushing for 101 in the home-opening win. The junior completed 20-of-31 passes without an interception and threw for a career-best four touchdowns. His 386 yards of total offense were a career high and rank 20th all-time at ASU.

Despite Presley’s heroics, Saturday’s victory did not come easy at first, as first-half turnovers plagued the Mountaineers for the second-straight week. ASU did not punt in the first half but led only 17-7 at halftime thanks to losing two fumbles, like it did in last Saturday’s opener at Chattanooga, and having a third drive stall on downs inside the Jacksonville 20.

The slim lead became even more tenuous when Jacksonville marched 78 yards on its first possession of the second half and scored on a two-yard run by J.J. Laster to cut the deficit to 17-14.

From there, however, it was all Appalachian (2-0, 1-0 SoCon). Each of the Mountaineers’ next four possessions ended in touchdowns, with the first three drives all covering at least 82 yards. The highlight of the onslaught was a diving 41-yard touchdown catch by Brian Quick, his third score of the afternoon. The junior finished with 132 receiving yards on six receptions, including the career-high-tying three touchdowns. The 100-yard receiving effort was the fifth of his career and his second in two games this season, giving him back-to-back 100-yard performances for the first time. He also hauled in multiple touchdown passes for the fourth time in his career.

  1. Yawwwnnnn. Yeah I guess Ap has a football team but how about that Daniel Boone Inn. They have a breakfast spread like mom used to fix on ‘baccer priming day!

  2. I was at the game on Saturday. App looks good on the offensive side of the ball, but they need to shore up their defense. If you have never been to a game at App, you need to go up the mountain and check it out. You won’t find a better college football atmosphere anywhere.

  3. I have been to a couple of games up there Tom and once you get in town, you see why they call it “The Rock”…Nothing like one of those Fall Saturdays in Boone….

Back in the day DB left the mountains and came on down to Hillsborough and that breakfast sounds like a winner and from the way it has been described, it sounds de-licious and I can see why Boone got off course and ended up in Hillsborough…..

It is crazy how things change. We had DB in the mountains and now the man is Presley and he has his team playing his tunes and the Moutaineers are still a threat and ranked #3 in the nation, even without Armanti Edwards…..

Homecoming coming soon to Boone and guess who’s coming to The Homecoming Dinner????? Scott Riddle and the Phoenix from Elon U…..That ought to be the day that Elon takes over the Top Spot on the charts, unless Presley makes Elon sleep in the Jailhouse at The Rock on Friday night and in the Heartbreak Hotel back in Burlington on Saturday night….

Honestly, this ought to be the year that Riddle and the Phoenix finally put the pieces of the puzzle together and beat the ‘Neers……..(Put the pieces of the puzzle together and you have the answer to the riddle…..)

    Elon over App in 2010?????

  4. To sefan: Yes App ST does have a football team. If you are able to read the sports page,or get on the world-wide web, aka internet, you should check out their record.Or you could ask a Michigan fan about App football….

  5. I knew I could get your stirred up Appfan since you were begging Andy for some coverage. I had a buddy who played for App and many high school friends that went to App. It is a great town, great football atmosphere and it is beautiful up there in the Fall. We enjoy a trip or two up there every year. You do have to give props to DB Inn however. Good luck this season.
