Update on College/High School football doings from the weekend

The N.C. A&T Aggies were having problems with the Norfolk State Spartans on Saturday, up in Virginia and it led to the Aggies putting in motion one of their best weapons – the kickoff return. Torrian[Torry] Warren(Dudley HS) scooped up an Estep kickoff at the 22, and returned it 78 yards for a touchdown with 1:36 remaining in the third quarter.

Norfolk State went on to win the game, 23-14…..

For the Oregon Ducks, in their 48-13 win over the Tennessee Vols, on Saturday night in Knoxville, Remene Alston(Page HS) played most of the 4th quarter at RB and finished with 9 carries/43 yards/40 net/1 TD/ 4.4 yards per carry….

The California Bears’ Keenan Allen(Northern Guilford HS), caught 6 passes for 66 yards and 1 TD in a 52-7 blow out win over Colorado. He also rushed the ball one time for 6 yds.

Derek Blacknall(Dudley HS) with an INT for a TD[46-yard retrun] for ECU and Kenny Okoro(Dudley HS) had a late pick at DB for Wake in the win over Duke….

Dustin Lineback(Southeast Guilford HS), led the East Carolina tacklers on defense, in the Pirates’ win over Memphis Saturday. Lineback had 4 tackles and 9 assists for 13 Total Tackles and he had 3 Tackles for a Loss, for 9 total yards lost….

Does Drew Adams(High Point Central HS) remind anyone of Scott Riddle at Elon U? Riddle is a senior, so why don’t the Phoenix jump on Adams? Grades are no problem for Adams, he could start classes there in January….

James Summers at Page HS had a heck of a game in the loss to Ragsdale last Friday night with 4 TD runs, a TD pass to Carter Greene and a 2-pont conversion pass…..Does Summers remind you of Russell Wilson at N.C. State? Summers might be a better runner and James second sport is basketball, whereas Wilson calls baseball his current #1 sport and football his second/alternative activity….Summers is a pretty solid basketball player and should play a big part in what Coach Robert Kent’s Pirates do this year, but I am hearing for real, that N.C. State is interested in Summers and I am not sure which site it is, but one of the Wolfpack web sites has been talking up Summers in recent weeks….

Any Adams-Riddle or Summers-Wilson comparison theories out there or are these the only ones going around?????

  1. Summers/Wilson is a good comparison but not so sure about Adams/Riddle. Riddle could flat play in HS and was regarded as a top 3 QB in the state at the time.

State and UNC showing good interest in Summers but where he would really fit is WF or GT.

  2. You won’t see his name in the box score unless you go looking for it but Kasey Redfern (Ragsdale) has won the starting punting job at Wofford as a freshman. Averaging over 37 yards per punt. Still booming kickoffs too.

  3. I hear James is getting some love from Florida State too. I think that would be a great opportunity for him as well; however, I’m sure most Page fans and coaches would love to see him stay and play at a big school here in NC, so that they can watch him play more often. But, who could pass up a big time program?

I also hear Drew Rogers has been getting some love from a lot of schools too (Nebraska and others). Be nice if they could work something out where they could get a combo QB / RB deal done with someone and be in the same backfield another 4 years after high school.

Now, let us not push them off too quickly though, because they are only juniors. I hear that Page will have 8 starters back on offense and 8 starters back on defense next year. Of course that is dependant on none of them transferring or missing out on the 2.0 gpa, but I’m not 100 percent sure if that is true, but that is what I’m hearing.
