Elder becomes statesman for Greensboro College as Pride win prestigious Golfweek Tournament

Haines City, FL. — Led by medalist Brock Elder (Greensboro, NC/Vandalia Christian), the Greensboro golf team won the Golfweek D3 Inivational that conculded on Tuesday. GC’s 858 (282-288-288) was 10 strokes better than second place Huntingdon. Elder finished with a minus-7 209 tally (68-68-73) and was two strokes better than two players, one being teammate Ben Nihart (Winston-Salem, NC/(home school)).

“Obviously, I am very pleased with our start to the season,” GC Head Coach Dirk Fennie said. “A lot of the best programs in the country were here. However, it seems like everyone lost key players, but we have everyone back.”

Elder, a senior, shot a 73 on Tuesday but was able to hold off the field, including Nihart. Josh Nichols (Waxhaw, NC/West Fosyth) and Nihart shot team-lows 71s on the final round at the Southern Dunes Golf and Country Club. The medalist honor was the third of Elder’s career. He won a tournament in his sophomore and junior years, too.

“We reached one of our team goals, which was to shoot under par as a team,” Fennie mentioned. “We did that on Sunday and followed up with two even-par rounds.”
